Biography
Orçun Koray Çelebi joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Bilkent University as an Assistant Professor in September 2024. He received his bachelor’s degree from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Boğaziçi University in 2018.
He then began the direct Ph.D. program in the Department of Mechanical Science and Engineering at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering in 2024 and continued his work as a postdoctoral researcher at UIUC before joining Bilkent.
His research focuses on the computational and theoretical modeling of the mechanics of plastic deformation in metallic materials, including pure metals, alloys, and high-entropy alloys.
In his work, he uses quantum-mechanics-based simulation methods, density functional theory, atomistic simulation tools, molecular dynamics, and machine learning approaches.
